San Francisco, CA – (May 24, 2015) – For the ninth year Stevanne Auerbach, PhD/Dr. Toy, recognizes the Best Green Toy and Children’s Products and the Best Green Toy Company.Best_Green_Winner

This year, with Jennie Ito, PhD, Dr. Toy’s Best Green Awards brings attention to the excellent innovative products and companies that are working toward making an important difference in the components of playthings while reducing the impact of their production.

Past Best Green Toy Company Winners are: Blue Orange Games, Green Toys, Hugg a Planet, Maple Landmark, Hape Toys, Plan Toys, Thames & Kosmos, and Owi. The 2015 Dr. Toy’s Best Green Toy Company Award is proudly presented to Bears for Humanity.

The award winning 2015 Dr. Toy’s Best Green Toys and Products are made by companies striving to inspire children to appreciate the environment and help them learn to take better care of our natural resources. These companies are making products to teach children more about our planet and producing playthings that are based on green principles. These are excellent examples of playthings that are made safely, are healthy to use, and have plenty of other special play and learning values.

These green toy products constitute a small number among all the choices of the many positive play products available, but we need to start somewhere.

As awareness grows, more families are thinking and considering new directions that are safer, more balanced, healthier, and in many cases are reflective of the “slow” movement as they provide play that respects the child’s pace of exploration.

More About the Best Green Toy Company 2015 – Bears For Humanity
When the founders of Bears for Humanity, Vijay and Renju Prathap, became the proud parents of twins, their worldview totally shifted. The only important thing was the health and well-being of their two little ones.

They wanted to give them the best; the healthiest organic foods and, of course, the safest toys and clothes.

“My older brother bought me a white teddy bear with his very first paycheck,” said Renju. “That bear was very precious to me, and that gift has always reminded me of my loving family and the importance of generosity.

It was very important to me to find the perfect organic Teddy bears for my children. I was incredibly surprised then to find that organic faux fur teddy bears simply didn’t exist.”

At first, the Prathaps were in disbelief. But, the more research they did, the clearer it became that large toy manufacturers just weren’t interested in investing the time and money to develop organic materials. Synthetic fur made from plastic is much cheaper, but the alternative high quality organic faux fur is costlier and extremely difficult to make.

That’s when the Prathaps approached the world’s leading experts on organic fabrics. Together, they have spent the last three years tirelessly developing manufacturing methods to bring this technology to the world.

Bears for Humanity’s teddy bears are made with 100% certified organic cotton/hemp fibers. The line of Premium and Baby bears offer children irreplaceable confidants in various colors with coordinating accessories.

With an unparalleled hand-feel and articulating limbs, these bears are infinitely snuggly and hypo-allergenic, with anti-bacterial organic fabric that gives parents the peace of mind they can’t get from polyester plush toys.

But developing the perfect teddy bear was only one part of the company’s goal.

In the United States alone there are 3 million children living below the poverty line, 1 million in foster care, and nearly half a million children without permanent homes. So the company created a “Buy One–Give One” model. For every bear sold, the company donates a bear to a needy child through a wide network of giving partners.

They also help provide jobs for at-risk mothers through their partnership with the CalWorks employment program.
